Well this month has seen plenty of rain, no mistakes about it, but last Friday’s downpour has certainly taken the cake. It was raining off and on all day, small little outbursts that lasted a few minutes and then would stop.
However around 4:30 the rains kicked into high gear, pounding rain that could blast through any Gortex rain jacket in minutes! The area I live in as at the lower end of Kanata's flood plain, key word here is "flood". The bus had to slow down as we entered my neighborhood as the streets were already filling up. As I hopped off my bus I stepped into an already ankle deep rushing stream, my street also had about 6 inches of water fron curb to curb and it was rapidly c

limbing. Our area has had a few floods over the last 15 years I have been living here, I prayed that my house was still dry. Luckily our place was not taking on any water yet however the basement drain was a gurgling monster that sounded as if it would spew who knows what type of sickening filth into our basement at any moment. I watched as the rain water filled up my back yard by almost 4 feet at the deepest point, around front the the water crept up our driveway and wave would roll up our lawn every time a car passed down the street.

Our neighbor's place took on water, we spent a while helping them to bail out with buckets. What a mess, my brother phoned me to let me know he had 4 inches of water in his basement. Our hydro was off for 24 hours as well. Hydro being off was a breeze compared to what others are going through, right now the neighborhood is busy with crews ripping out wet flooring and furniture from all those affected by flooding. Insurance vehicles and adjusters all over the place.
July certainly is setting or breaking a record for the wettest summer month in my lifetime.
